One rarely steps along a secure path when he or she tries to discern the motives or meanings behind the actions of another. We need clear signals, especially when looking at the political world and its often silly players. With that in mind, it’s a good thing Deputy State Department Spokesman Mark Toner gave us some easy options when he outright laughed at the idea that he or the department…

Folks in Utah are ready for a showdown – with the feds, and with each other. Many vocal residents in the state are preparing for one final fight with the Obama Administration before the President vacates office. Theirs is a struggle to stop the federal government from locking up nearly two million acres of land called “The Bears Ears” from mining and other uses. On the other side are large…

The people who handled the rental of the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania for the Democrat National Convention might want to get their money back due to the terrible wiring that screwed up a key breakthrough on Wednesday, July 17. At a crucial moment of the multi-night event - when the long-suffering, long-silent anti-war community in the party finally found a voice to…

Fans of Pokemon--or pretty much anyone who hasn’t been hyper-sleeping for the past decade or two--are very familiar with the comic gangsters, Team Rocket. The Lannisters of the Pokeverse, Team Rocket are meddlesome criminals who travel the world to steal things, mess with people, aggrandize power, and generally act like jerks. A lot like politicians. But they’ve got nothing on Brooklyn…

This week is when even unprejudiced, liberally minded, peaceful people can look like meanies. Why? Because this is the week when federal Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) mandates regarding the treatment of “Transgender” patients take effect. Released on May 13, the new mandates from HHS will, as explained by the National Center for Transgender Equality: … [M]ake illegal the…

Archeologists believe they have found the remnants of a once beloved document. According to reports, the archaic composition was known as “The Fourth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution,” and was found buried beneath reams of unwarranted searches, seizures, and the latest layer of sediment: 430,000 iris scans collected in a “pilot FBI program,” nearly half of which were conducted in San…

For nearly ten years, watchdogs have issued reports about the alarming and unprecedented weapons and ammunition purchases made by domestic federal agencies, as well as the unconstitutional sales of military grade weapons and vehicles from the feds to local and state police. And, for just about as long, skeptics have derided those reporters, not bothering to check the facts or consider the…

Nancy Pelosi… Five syllables consistently associated with charm, style, and absolute care for the downtrodden. When one hears the House Minority Leader’s name, one never thinks, “smarmy, unctuous, elitist, faux populist.” In fact, it’s often depressingly illuminating to see just how hypocritical those other paladins of the “underclass” are, while Ms. Pelosi continues to walk the righteous path…

It seems as if more and more state legislatures are taking small steps to push back against federal tyranny and reassert what were supposed to be constitutionally-protected state purviews. In April, the governor of Tennessee signed a bill into law that would establish a gold repository in the state, paving the way to allow for a state currency based on the precious metal. In May, the…

When is a fish not a fish? Don’t worry, this isn’t the set-up for a bad joke. The answer is simple. A fish isn’t a fish when the political authorities say it’s not. A recent piece by Veronique de Rugy for Reason and an excellent article by Patrick Mustain for Scientific American just brought this issue to the fore, and, as the internet click-bait meme goes, “you won’t believe the secret…
