Every single number within the total is a person. It’s a person being shot and having their life changed. It’s a person being shot and killed. They’re people.
Chicago’s too busy worrying about whether their teachers actually want to get back to work or if they’re more interested in “civil disobedience” to care about the people being shot in their city.
Even though the total number of people shot in Chicago this year is reportedly slightly down from 2018, the FACT that the number is well over the four-digit mark doesn’t really feel encouraging.
The CPD has reportedly seen a 19 percent increase in recovering illegal guns this year over last year, with 8,022 illegal guns being taken off the streets since the beginning of the year.
This past weekend’s shootings bring the weekend total since Memorial Day weekend to at least 571 people falling victim to shootings, at least 69 of which have died from their wounds.
“Of course we need an assault weapons ban as well, but let’s start with getting universal background checks," Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot said on Friday.
"...the violence and death in Chicago aren’t politically convenient enough for politicians who are merely attempting to get their voice in a sound bite on CNN or wherever else."
