I haven’t done one of these in a while, because the level of people actually caring dwindled over time with each week I would write about Chicago weekend shootings over the previous three-plus years. However, there are just some numbers that are too sad to ignore.

At least 61 people were shot over the weekend in Chicago, nine of which were fatal, according to the Chicago Sun-Times Media Wire.

What makes these recent shootings more noteworthy — even though minors were victims of shootings plenty of times before — the volume of minors being shot in a short period of time seems to have increased.

ABC 7 - Chicago, who used the Sun-Times Media Wire report, noted that a 3-year-old little girl was among “at least five minors shot over the weekend and 20 minors shot overall in the past week.

There’s always been a share of 17, 18 and 19-year-olds shot every single week in Chicago, but the kids are getting younger. This most likely has to do with the increase in carjackings in the past year or so, with kids ranging from 12 to 16-year-old being involved in the crime, much of it gang-affiliated.

So over this weekend alone, a 3-year-old girl, 10-year-old boy, 14-year-old girl and a two 16-year-old boys were among the wounded.

The worsening of the level of crime and the age of those involved seems to be a result of the lax amount of repercussions for criminal actions because there are two activists running the show in Chicago, Mayor Lori Lightfoot and Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx.

You might remember Foxx for being an apologist for hate crime hoaxer Jussie Smollett.

When those in charge turn a blind eye to crime plaguing their city, it’s no wonder that the violence has a trickle-down effect impacting younger and younger Chicagoans.
