Mark's undergrad degree is from Cornell. He has law degrees from SUNY Buffalo and Harvard. He practiced law in NYC, Mexico City, and Paris, before doing a stint as a pro tennis manager and tournament organizer. He returned to his college town of Ithaca, NY and got involved in real estate development and politics.

In 2011, Mark moved to Pecan Plantation, TX, and in 2018, to Oak Island, NC.

Mark's a dog lover who has used his small plane to do many dog-rescue flights. He speaks Spanish and French.

On Morning Joe, Joe Scarborough seeks to contrast the shooting of Michael Brown with that of Trayvon Martin.  In the former case, Scarborough says "we don't have the evidence," whereas in the Martin case, "you had a guy chase a guy around a neighborhood and shoot him because he was black."

On MSNBC's Up with Steve Kornacki, MSNBC-regular and former Virginia Dem congressional candidate Ball describes Jim Webb, who recently formed a presidential exploratory committee, as "authentic" and someone who "cares about issues."  Ball said that represents a "stark contrast from the very carefully packaged and branded Clinton image."

On Alex Wagner's MSNBC show, Josh Barro of the New York Times says that health insurance is "weirdly complicated" and that the free market in it doesn't work very well.  As a result, he argues that despite what conservatives think, people can be trusted to buy it like they would other products, that government must be highly involved, and we need people like Jonathan Gruber.
