President Trump on Thursday took to Twitter to respond to the death of Newman Police Department Cpl. Ronil Singh who was killed by an illegal alien on Christmas Day.
“There is right now a full scale manhunt going on in California for an illegal immigrant accused of shooting and killing a police officer during a traffic stop. Time to get tough on Border Security. Build the Wall!” he tweeted.
The president’s tweet comes amid a partial government shutdown over his demand for funding to build a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border.
The man suspected of shooting and killing 33-year-old Singh during a traffic stop for a possible DUI was identified as an illegal immigrant, Stanislaus County Sheriff Adam Christianson said during a press conference on Thursday.
“Singh, a Fiji native, leaves behind his wife, Anamika, and their five-month-old son,” MRCTV reported.
A manhunt is underway for the suspect who remains at-large. Further details as to his identity have not been released.
