A Canadian university is offering scholarships of $60,000 to illegal immigrant students that seek to leave the U.S. following President Trump’s decision to terminate the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, reports CBC.

The principal of Huron University College, Barry Craig, says the school is willing “to do anything” to help DACA students.

"What a terrible circumstance,” he said. “They're facing deportation, the end of their dreams and the end of their education.”

“We want to do anything as a small school to demonstrate our commitment to a just society," he added.

The principal of the Ontario school came up with the idea to offer scholarships to DACA recipients or “dreamers” to fight what he called “terrible injustice.”

"We want them to find a safe haven and quality education,” said Craig.

President Trump announced earlier this week that the program would be rolled back over six months, giving Congress time to come up with a legislative solution to legalize the program or provide DACA recipients a way to avoid deportation.

He assured DACA recipients in a tweet on Thursday that they have “nothing to worry about” when it comes to deportation action.

If DACA students seek to travel to Canada, they face a variety of legal obstacles, since they do not have legal status.

They would need to apply for a Canadian student visa to study in Canada, though even then the country’s federal government would need to bend some rules to grant those visas to illegal immigrants applying from the U.S.
