Despite backlash and protests across the nation, President Trump says he has no regrets about his decision to terminate the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) immigration program.

Meeting with congressional leaders at the White House on Wednesday, Trump said that he had “no second thoughts” on the action.

Trump has given Congress six months to come up with a legal solution to help the over 800,000 illegal immigrants or "dreamers" enrolled in DACA avoid deportation.

He tweeted Tuesday night that if Congress can’t pass legislation to legalize DACA, he will “revisit the issue.”

The Trump administration argues that the program, enacted via an executive order by former President Obama in 2012, was unconstitutional.

The program made illegal immigrants who came to the country as minors eligible to apply for renewable two year visas to work and study in the U.S. without fear of deportation.

Congress is working on bipartisan legislation to create a path for citizenship for DACA recipients.
