Perhaps you've found yourself approaching Christmas this year thinking to yourself, "Wow, things have been going really well this year - I've got a little too much joy. Might need to reel things in a little."

OK, in Biden's economy? Not likely. But if you're the purple unicorn out there whose life looks like Clark Griswald's house on New Years Eve, here's something to get you good and depressed with the rest of us. Turns out half - half - of young Americans say Israel should be nixed entirely and the land turned over to Palestine. Meaning a) that whole "Never Again" feel-good stuff after the Holocaust came with a pretty quick expiration date, and b) we've got a shocking and disturbing epidemic of ignorance among our youth.

According to a monthly Harvard CAPS/Harris poll, 51 percent of 18–24-year-olds in the U.S. want to see Israel handed over to Hamas, despite the fact that 66 percent also said Hamas’s October 7 attack - in which terrorists shot, stabbed, beat, burned, raped, tortured, and/or kidnapped thousands of men, women, children, babies, and senior citizens - was genocidal against the Jews.

Poll

Translation? Yeah, terrorists killed a bunch of innocent people for their ethnicity, but still. #FreePalestine. In addition, one in four Americans 18-24 years old said they don't believe Hamas committed rape and other crimes against women during their attack.

While this revelation into the hearts and minds of young Americans is nauseating, it's not surprising. The Hamas attack on Israel and the Jews' response has exposed the rank anti-Semitism that has pervaded American college campuses for years, leaving university presidents unable - or perhaps just unwilling - to say that calling for the death of the Jews violates their campuses' policies on harassment, while allowing Jewish students to be openly accosted on school grounds.

It's also not shocking, given that in this same poll, 79% of Americans aged 18-24 said they agreed with the statement that "white people are oppressors and nonwhite people and people of certain groups have been oppressed and  a result should be favored today at universities and for employment."

Thankfully, per the poll, the number of Americans who want to see Israel wiped off the map dwindles the older (and subsequently wiser) people get. Thirty-one percent of 25–34-year-olds say they'd pick Hamas over Israel, compared to 24 percent of 35–44-year-olds, 15 percent of 45–54-year-olds, 13 percent of 55–64-year-olds, and 4 percent of those 65 and older.

All in all, more than 80 percent of all respondents said they sided with Israel in the ongoing conflict, with 60 percent saying they supported a two-state solution that recognizes Palestine and Israel as separate nations (an arrangement Hamas has continually rejected).

Fa la la la facepalm.
