“Freedom is slavery.” So said Big Brother, the anthropomorphized character of the state in George Orwell’s “1984”. That, of course, was fiction. But the absurdist slogan is being made reality, in Evanston, Illinois. According to Genevieve Bookwalter, of the Chicago Tribune, in order to make amends for a crime that was never committed by anyone against anyone alive in that area for over a…

There’s an old adage, “A man’s home is his castle.” There’s an Amendment to the US Constitution prohibiting any level of government from infringing the inherent right to keep and bear arms. But a new court case explicitly shows us that neither of those standards currently apply in Ohio. Ohio’s WSAZ and the Associated Press report that the Ohio Supreme Court in February will hear the appeal of…

We’ve heard the expected: Don’t eat turkey on Thanksgiving, because one more turkey will require so much carbon-based energy Earth will tilt into the Climate Change Event Horizon. Eat bugs instead. After all, it’s what all the cool social justice warriors are doing. Don’t celebrate Thanksgiving, because it’s a vestige of Western-White-Christian-Male-Patriarchal-Culture and does honor to the…

Try to maintain your composure in the face of this utterly shocking news. Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) has made a claim that appears to be, well, less than truthful. How such a thing is even remotely within the realm of possibility is anyone’s guess. After all, this is the woman who claimed when applying for a plum Harvard job that she was a member of a “preferred group”, a “…

At first blush, Sacha Baron Cohen’s recent – and entirely un-ironic – Anti-Defamation League (ADL) speech decrying free speech in order to “save democracy” might be laughed off as another “celebrity meets politics” disaster tale, and easily dismissed. But there are two key reasons his monologue is being recognized as one of the worst examples of public oration offered by a non-politician…

As those who have read Luke: 23:34 in the Bible know, Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” Something to keep in mind with this breaking story. According to Tara Molina, of CBS Local 2, from Chicago, the Palatine-Schaumburg High School District 211 recently voted 5-2 to “give transgender students unrestricted access to locker rooms and restrooms.” ‘We believe it…

New information from Colorado reinforces the truism that one can never overestimate the inventiveness of the human mind or the perfidious and oppressive tendencies of the state. According to Noah Shepardson, of Reason, Colorado gun owners and retailers are raising the proverbial middle finger at the state’s onerous and unconstitutional 2013 “large capacity magazine ban”. In 2013, the…

Numerous liberty-minded Americans are justifiably angry that the U.S. Supreme Court just allowed what the pop media loosely call the “Sandyhook Families’ case against Remington Arms” to proceed. But in their celebratory anti-gun harangues, the shallow popsters offer very little information about the suit, and, in most cases, they peddle the cliched alternative: anti-rights propaganda. So…

Here’s a new story that, at first blush, appears to be merely another reminder of what we already know: government is involuntary, inefficient, insulting, unresponsive, lacks competition, and constantly tells us how quickly its costs go up. But on deeper examination, we see clear principles that are important to recognize, because they’re eternal; they’re axiomatic, and tell us why it’s…

Thirty years ago, I watched on a small black and white television as East and West Berliners climbed over the thirty-year-old cement wall the Soviet Union had erected in the middle of the city, as the people of East and West overcame decades of deadly threats, killings, state-run theft, speech control, leftist propaganda, and hardship to welcome a brighter future. Boosters of the free market…
