“This was a really good week for our democracy,” MSNBC’s resident presidential historian, Michael Beschloss, declared on Friday’s The 11th Hour with Stephanie Ruhle, citing Raphael Warnock’s win in Georgia and how “Donald Trump has continued to implode.”

Beschloss proceeded to fear “what might have happened this week had the Republicans won in those battleground states,” claiming “election denying candidates” would have said “there should be violence in the streets.”

Pointing to Trump, he asserted that “when parties do not adapt to public opinion, they die,” recalling “that happened to the Federalists in 1816” and “to the Whigs” who “did not adapt to changing views on slavery.” Beschloss warned: “And if the Republicans continue to beat this horse of Donald Trump, and stick to him, which they may have to because of presidential primaries, the Republicans themselves may die too.”
