Democrats must scare voters about the prospect of Donald Trump returning to the White House, if they are to have any chance of surviving the mid-terms, two guests on an insider political TV show contended. The advice was endorsed by of the two hosts on Sunday’s weekly The Circus on Showtime, hosted by political-media insiders John Heilemann, Mark McKinnon, Alex Wagner and Jenn Palmieri.

After noting declining Democratic support amongst blacks, a Democratic strategist asserted “we have to put Donald Trump back on the ballot,” noting the resonance of citing Trump when voters in a focus group told “if Republicans win the House then Donald Trump will be president in 2024? Every single hand went up.” McKinnon: “Oh really, interesting.”

Patrick Gaspard, CEO of the Center for American Progress, told Heilemann: “You have to remind folks what America looked like, the dumpster fire that Joe Biden got from Donald Trump, and make it clear that Donald Trump still owns that party and intends to waltz back into the White House if we let him.” He called it “the highest stakes ever, beyond inflation, beyond jobs, beyond gas prices.” To which Heilemann replied: “Democrats better not fuck this up.”
