David Frum, a staff writer at The Atlantic, seriously contended, on CNN’s Reliable Sources, that “relative to the truth, the prestige press in this country has a pro-Trump bias. Relative to the truth, Trump gets easier coverage than he deserves.” He proceeded to insult pro-Trump commentators on CNN, asserting they “normally would be working for the Home Shopping Network.”

Frum was reacting to the observation, in an upcoming book by former New York Times executive editor Jill Abramson, that the news pages the Times and the Washington Post are “unmistakably anti-Trump.”

Frum on the January 6 Reliable Sources:

“Relative to the truth, the prestige press in this country has a pro-Trump bias. Relative to the truth, Trump gets easier coverage than he deserves. The surest way onto the op-ed page of a prestigious paper is to come up with some angle to explain why something the president has done is less crazy or dangerous than it seems. Networks, like this one, give a lot of air time to people who normally would be working for the Home Shopping Network, who wouldn’t be on at all.”
