Though there are many examples of journalists hyping the threat of the coronavirus as they use it as another issue on which to deride the capabilities of President Donald Trump, CNN’s Brian Stelter led Sunday’s Reliable Sources by condemning conservatives for daring to point out that reality. “RIGHT-WING MEDIA INFECTING TRUST IN MEDIA?” screamed the on-screen heading as Stelter asserted: “Pro-Trump media stars are defending Trump’s handling the outbreak by accusing news outlets of rooting for the virus.”

Stelter recited those “making the shocking claim that the media is somehow using the virus to take down Trump.” He maintained “this is not the first time the Trump machine conjured up a conspiracy narrative, full of misinformation and fearmongering” which, Stelter contended, is “all part of a Trump defense strategy: fighting a virus by playing politics.”
