The gap between 2020 and 2019 is widening. It’s slow, but the difference between the number of shooting victims in 2019 compared to this year is expanding. But the media isn’t raising a panic for them. Surprisingly, politicians aren’t even blaming Trump for the amount of people being shot in Chicago, because they simply don’t care. And if they tell you they do, then respond to them by asking what they’re doing about it. The answer, like most weeks, is nothing. The Chicago Police Department (CPD) can only do so much.
Yes, this is my weekly report of the weekend shootings that happened in Chicago. But, as long as the disparity between the number of shootings this year and last year grows, it’s going to lead off the story.
The Chicago Tribune, which keeps track of all shootings in the city of Chicago, reported that 337 people have been shot in total in 2020. That number, which includes shootings through March 2, is 72 more than at the same point in 2019.
As for this past weekend’s shootings, one person was killed and another 20 were wounded in shootings across the Chicagoland area.
The number of dead is down from the previous weekend, but the total number of shootings victims is slightly up. Four people were murdered and 14 others were wounded during the previous weekend.
Authorities are investigating, but the one person who was killed over the weekend has not yet been publicly identified. The victim is thought to have been a male in his 20s, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
