2020 Leaving 2019 in the Dust: 4 More Killed, 14 Wounded in Chicago Weekend Shootings

Nick Kangadis | March 2, 2020

As I reported last Monday, the disparity between the number of shooting victims in Chicago this year as compared to 2019 keeps growing. It’s growing at a slow rate figure-wise. But when we’re talking about people being shot, no rate is slow.

The Chicago Tribune keeps track of the total number of shooting victims, no matter the day of the week. They’ve reported that, as of February 25, 310 people have been shot across the Chicagoland area in 2020. That is 61 shooting victims ahead of 2019’s pace.

As for the weekend that just ended, at least four people were killed and another 14 were wounded in Chicago weekend shootings. That is a slight drop from the previous weekend, which saw at least five people murdered and another 17 wounded.

Here are the names of those that lost their lives over the weekend, according to the Chicago Sun-Times (Some have yet to be publicly identified):

30-year-old man, shot and killed in Humboldt Park

Tramen Starnes, 22

Michael Lee, 28

Takeyla Sims, 34 (Same shooting incident as Lee)

Including this past weekend’s shootings, MRCTV’s running tally of weekend shooting victims in Chicago is now up to at least 36 people killed with at least another 137 wounded.
