As Hurricane Matthew Hits, Obama Flies to Chicago for Fundraisers

As Hurricane Matthew barreled into the side of Florida with 120 mile-per-hour winds, leaving over 800,000 people without power, President Obama boarded Air Force One and headed to a series political fundraisers in Chicago.

No you didn’t read that wrong.

The president arrived in Chicago around noon on Friday for a high-dollar fundraiser later that day. As reported by the Chicago Sun Times, the price tiers were as follows:

  • $10,000-per-plate for the lunch
  • $16,700 for lunch, a photo and preferred seating
  • $33,400 per couple adds to that the perk of being in Pelosi’s “Speaker’s Cabinet” donor group
  • $66,800 per couple gets the top VIP add-on, to also be part of a “clutch,” or small reception

The funds raised there will go to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.

On Sunday, Obama will again attend another fundraiser, this time for the Senate campaign of Rep. Tammy Duckworth (D), who is running against Republican Sen. Mark Kirk. The tiers for that fundraiser start at $1,000 for an individual donation to $12,700 in a pledged contribution or a promise to raise that much from other people. Top givers and raisers get a VIP reception and a photo.

Back when he was still a senator, Obama ripped then-President Bush for the perceived slow response to Hurricane Katrina, saying the government responded with “unconscionable ineptitude.”

Ironically enough, he even criticized Bush for flying over the devastated area in Air Force One while campaigning in 2008, saying, “We can talk about… a president who only saw the people from the window of an airplane instead of down here on the ground.”

And, of course, the media has once again remained completely silent on the astounding hypocrisy.
