Woman Whose Question Was Leaked to Clinton Campaign: Hillary 'Should Be Disqualified'

Zach Montanaro | November 2, 2016

The woman whose question for the Democratic presidential debate was leaked to Hillary Clinton's campaign by Donna Brazile ahead of the debate has a response to Clinton.

Appearing on "Happening Now" on Monday, Lee-Anne Walters didn’t mince words when asked what she thought about Clinton's response to her question, calling the answer a “cop-out.” She also stated that Clinton being given the question ahead of time should disqualify her.

“I was disgusted by Hillary’s answer when she first answered it, and I’m even more so now. I feel she should be disqualified because it gave her an advantage that she shouldn't have had,” she said.

When pressed by anchor Jenna Lee to see if anyone else Walters knew outside of CNN might have leaked the question, Walters said that she didn’t “see them giving the question to anyone else.”

Walters is given credit for first bringing the Flint water crisis to the national spotlight.

"Without [Walters] we would be nowhere," Mona Hanna-Attisha, the head of pediatrics at Flint's Hurley Medical Center, said in a Mother Jones article that ran at the beginning of the year. "She's the crux of all of this."

Walters, a stay-at-home-mom with a husband in the Navy, started to notice effects on the family when the city switched its water supply to the Flint River in 2014. The family started losing their hair and breaking out in rashes they still have to this day, and one child even had stopped growing.

Despite her clear unhappiness with Clinton, Walters says she remains a “very” undecided voter and even contemplated not voting for the first time in her life, but that she wasn’t sure if she “could go through with” not voting.

When asked if she had any thoughts about Donald Trump, Walters laughed and simply said, “No comment.”
