Viral: Cop Caught in Candid Photo Sharing a Special Meal with Homeless Woman

Luke Bonin, a state trooper assigned to the State Police Dartmouth Barracks in Massachusetts, was just leaving court when he saw a woman down on her luck holding a sign asking for help. Bonin ended up passing her by -- to stop at a local fast food restaurant and purchase two meals.

Bonin drove back to where the woman was sitting alongside the road and got out of his cruiser. The woman was terrified at first, saying she would leave and that she knew she wasn't supposed to be there.

Instead, Bonin told her he wasn't there to kick her out before presenting her with a choice between the two meals. He sat against the bumper of his cruiser as the two shared a meal and a conversation. The whole thing was captured by a bystander.

The police department commended Bonin for his selflessness.

“Yes, Trooper Bonin, we know you do not want or expect publicity. We know you didn’t want to be noticed, but you were, and the job is proud of you. We commend you for your selfless act, and for ‘doing the right thing’ for someone less fortunate than most people,” state police said in its Facebook post.

Wouldn't it be nice if the media made a point of sharing uplifting stories involving our law enforcement officers like this?
