Some might feel conflicted about the next topic, because they may agree to the premise but disagree with reasons why.

Rep. Al Green (D-Texas) spoke briefly on the House floor on Thursday to suggest that Congress “eliminate the debt ceiling.”

“And I rise today with a very simple message; the debt ceiling has outlived its usefulness,” Green said, opening his remarks. “It is time to eliminate the debt ceiling.”

Now some, including yours truly, believe that the term “debt ceiling” has no meaning. Think about it. Why say something has a “ceiling” or a “limit” if Congress is just going to raise it every time they need more of the American people’s money?

So, from the standpoint of use within the English language, it may have “outlived its usefulness.”

However, that’s not why Green and others within Congress might like to see that term disappear.

We have to do so because these issues we are dealing with currently are only the genesis. The revelations will lead us to other issues involving the social agenda. Budgetary items will not be the only items on this extortion agenda. It’s time to end the debt ceiling and let us move forward and negotiate as we appropriately should and have done lo these many years.

You see, for Green and many of his colleagues, he just doesn’t want to be burdened with having to continually be held accountable for their reckless spending by having to ask permission and get it voted through. After all, they have their “social agenda,” and a social agenda has no price tag as long as elitists in Congress get their way.
