Touching: Commercial Captures Ken Bone’s '15th Minute' of Fame

Andrew Mullins | November 4, 2016

Does anybody remember Ken Bone? Not one month ago, the strawberry red Izod sweater-clad man was the talk of the Internet when he asked a question at the town hall-style presidential debate.

In the days immediately following the debate, Bone amassed 254,000 Twitter followers, received calls to run for president, and was even given multiple corporate endorsements.

But alas, like most mega-viral flash fads created by the internet, Bone’s stardom has begun to dim.

Enter Izod, of course. Given that a key motif of Bone’s fame is his strawberry-red Izod sweater, the company naturally formed a sponsorship deal with Bone.

Well, the popular clothing manufacturer finally delivered, and it’s sure to leave few eyes dry:

It’s interesting to note that Bone’s wife Heather also made a clear reference to Gizmodo’s liberal  hit job on Bone: “We can’t pretend that the negative stuff doesn’t affect us, because it does.”

Bone closed the commercial with:

I’m pretty high on the wave of the political process right now. I’ve learned to be able to see the heart of it. I’m not a politician, I’m just a guy with a positive message. I’m about as pumped up as I can get, and it’s fun just letting it carry me.

Bone’s enthusiasm on the 2016 election won America’s heart, and that carries through in this touching commercial. And while many of us may be down on the candidates or have a bleak outlook on the political process, we can’t forget our humanity.

Like Bone’s 15 minutes of fame, soon this election will also be over. And at the end of the day, it’s important for us all to remember that we’re still united in our shared country and in our shared humanity.

But right now, I think we can all agree with Ken Bone:

When it’s over, it’s over. And I’m happy to have played my role.

And at the very least, Bone gifted America with an amazing gif.
