A Thief Tried to Lift Clothes From a Dept Store - and This Security Guard Wasn't Having It

Broad daylight robberies, flash mobs of smash-and-grab looters, and maskless thugs casually sauntering off with armfuls - or even bagfuls - of merch lifted from stores have become an all-too-common sight in cities across America. And in states like California, which has lessened the penalties for theft and raised the threshold for felony grand larceny to protect criminals, the problem is even worse.

And if you’re an employee who stands in the way? Good luck finding another job. Lululemon and Lowe’s have already fired workers who confront shoplifters, citing “worker safety” for letting thieves get away with stealing thousands of dollars’ worth of clothing and other items.

But it looks like at least one security guard didn’t get that memo - or perhaps he works for one of the few establishments left that still cares about law and order. Video circulating on social media shows the moment a shoplifter tired to make out of a department store with both arms loaded down with stolen clothing, only to be all-but-tackled by a guard who wasn’t having it. And the altercation didn’t stop there - and at one point, it included a revolving door.

It’s not clear whether the security guard was able to retrieve all the stuff the thief was trying to make off with. But one thing’s for sure - perhaps if looters thought they’d encounter a different response than stores rolling out the red carpet for theft and police turning a blind eye while prosecutors stand aside with crossed arms, we wouldn’t see, say, dozens of criminals rushing out of a high-end store with hundreds of thousands of dollars' worth of loot.

Of course, that would actually require blue cities caring about things like innocent residents and the rule of law - so we won't hold our breath.
