Red Robin Server Pays Tab for Mourning Cops, Writes ‘#PoliceLivesMatter’

After attending a funeral service for Columbus SWAT Officer Steven Smith, a group of grieving lawmen visited a Red Robin in Polaris, Ohio for a bite to eat.

There, they found a sympathetic woman who would attempt to shine a light on their sad day.

Instead of dropping off the bill for the officers' meals, Red Robin server Jessica Dunbar left the group a note that revealed she was going to pay their $123 tab.

“Officers, your bill is on me today. I can’t imagine the day you all have had, let alone what you go through every day. I hope your days get better. So much respect. #WeSeeYou #PoliceLivesMatter #RIPOfficerSmith,” Dunbar wrote.

“One guy said, ‘It’s always a rough day when you have to put a brother in the ground.’ Right after that I was like ‘I’ve got to do something nice,’” Dunbar later recounted.

Dunbar, whose father is a retired police officer, said Smith’s untimely death made her think of her own family.

“He [Smith] left behind a wife and kids. It could’ve been me. It could’ve been my dad,” she said.

“I just wanted to do something nice,” Dunbar added. “You can’t put a dollar amount on making somebody happy.”

“It really touched all of our hearts,” Wellington Police Lt. Jeff Shelton told WCMH-TV. “We were crying all day and then you’ve got a bunch of guys and female officers crying. There wasn’t a dry eye in the place by the time we were done.”
