Previous Lottery Winner Proves Massive Sums of Money Don’t Always Solve Your Problems

The record-breaking $1.5 billion Powerball lottery jackpot may have been snagged by three winners across Florida, California and Tennessee in Wednesday night's drawing, but one other lottery story just goes to show that more money doesn't equal less problems.

North Carolina native and previous Powerball winner Marie Holmes was just served misdemeanor criminal summons for allegedly threatening another woman with “bodily harm” multiple times over harassing phone calls on Jan. 10.

WECT6 has kept their eye on Holmes and her boyfriend, Lamar McDow, since she won the $188 million prize from Brunswick County’s Powerball lottery in February of 2015. What they've seen isn't pretty.

According to WECT6, Holmes took the lump sum payout option on her winnings, which ended up amounting to roughly $88M after taxes.

She said she planned to give back to the community, specifically to the church and to cerebral palsy organizations. She said she has always wanted to travel, and this would allow her to fulfill those dreams. Additionally, Holmes said she planned to set up college funds for her children.

But over the course of the last year, Holmes posted over $21 million in prison bonds for McDow while making headlines every time the guy got arrested.

That’s enough to drive any sane person to rage, so maybe it isn’t a surprise that she’s threatening people with bodily harm. But perhaps she should focus that fury on the guy who’s probably causing her the most pain and stress.
