Planned Parenthood Tweets Advice for How ‘Male Allies’ Can Check Their Privilege

Planned Parenthood has advice for “male allies” so they can properly check their privilege.

A tweet from Planned Parenthood Action’s Twitter on Dec. 23 reads, “Some male allies are still unlearning sexism. This graphic helps you check your privilege.”

The tweet is accompanied with a link to the website Feministing.com, which hosts titles such as the “Daily Feminist Cheat Sheet” for activists who are too busy to keep up with all of the latest things to be outraged over, an article about how “Being a Feminist ‘Star Wars’ Fan Is… Complicated,” and an update soliciting donations called, “F**k the Patriarchy, Give to Feministing.”

(With the proceeds, Feministing.com hopes to “keep dismantling the patriarchy and s**t.”)

The Feministing.com link provides a higher resolution photo of the comic, which allegedly features “male activists, artivists, and social justice champions tell[ing] us what makes them role models for aspiring male feminists.”

Instead of being informative for potential “male allies” and providing step-by-step privilege-checking instructions, the comic features contrived remarks made by “male allies” that show how some men claim they support feminism while still participating in allegedly sexist behavior.

Ironically, the comic was reportedly created by a man.

According to Feministing.com, the comic creator is Víctor Entrepuertas, who appears to at least present as masculine. But given how gender apparently has nothing to do with gender presentation, you never know.
