Meet 'Deez Nuts': The Presidential Candidate Who Polls Better Than Traditional GOP Hopefuls

Did you think there were 21 Democratic and Republican candidates running in the race? Well, actually, there's one more and this candidate is soaring in the polls.

"Deez Nuts" is polling at 9 percent in North Carolina ‒ tied with Republican hopeful Marco Rubio and outperforming GOP candidates Carly Fiorina, Mike Huckabee and Scott Walker, who garnered 6 percent each, a Public Policy Polling survey released Wednesday found.

According to Rolling Stone:

News broke this week  that an independent presidential candidate going by the name of "Deez Nuts" is polling at 9 percent in the latest PPP poll from North Carolina — after posting similar numbers in PPP polls of Minnesota (8 percent) and Iowa (7 percent).

According to a Federal Elections Commission filing, Mr. Nuts hails from Wallingford, Iowa. An email address on the website deeznutsforpresident2016.yolasite.com led Rolling Stone to a person who purports to be the suddenly famous Mr. Nuts, and answered our questions in writing. (He declined to speak to Rolling Stone over the phone.)

But, where does his name "Deez Nuts" even come from? The website Know Your Meme lists Deez Nuts as “a video remix series containing a clip of internet personality WelvenDaGreat saying the phrase ‘deez nuts’ into a phone, which is often added as the punch line into a variety of videos on Instagram and Vine.” It was also a popular joke in the 1990s.

However, there is someone behind Deez Nuts and his name is Brady Olson. He is about to start his sophomore year in high school and has quite enough time to prepare his legal run for president of the United States.

So, how did Brady Olson go from standard Iowa high school student to the No. 1 trending topic on Twitter overnight?

“It started because somebody emailed us under the name Deez Nuts,” says Jim Williams, an issue polling specialist a Public Policy Polling. “He said, ‘I’m Deez Nuts. I’m running. Here’s my filing statement. Would you poll me?’”

Williams thought, “This is something Public Policy Polling would do,” so he squared Nuts off against Trump and Clinton in Minnesota a few weeks ago. He polled at 7 percent.
