Witnesses believe that 33-year-old Joshua Burwell was looking down at a mobile device in his hands when he stepped over the edge of a California cliff last week, plummeting to his death.
“(He) wasn't watching where he was walking, he was looking down at the device in his hands," said San Diego Lifeguard Bill Bender.
Despite the many warnings posted around San Diego’s Sunset Cliffs, two other people have died in what is presumed to be similar cases of picture-taking mishaps.
There is no evidence to determine what exactly it was Burwell was holding when he fell, but some witnesses have said the device looked like a phone or a camera.
Burwell, who was killed on Christmas Day, leaves behind a two-year-old son.
