Leftist Journalist Admits To ‘Huge Double Standard’ in Defending Al Franken

Mark Judge | November 17, 2017

Give Joan Walsh some credit. The leftist writer for The Nation magazine has admitted that when news broke that liberal Sen. Al Franken has been accused of sexual misconduct by Los Angeles radio host Leeann Tweeden, Walsh’s first reaction was to spend “at least 30 minutes looking for proof that Franken didn’t do what he’s accused of.”

On Thursday, Tweeden charged that in 2006 on a USO tour Franken forced her to kiss him, got angry when she rebuffed him, and took a photo with his hands grabbing her breasts when she was asleep.

Walsh, who earlier this year called U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) acting director Thomas Homan the “head of a violent gang,” admitted that while she instantly believed recent allegations of sexual misconduct on the part of Judge Roy Moore, a conservative, when news of Franken’s behavior broke she immediately set out to disprove the accusers:

Against the backdrop of the sexual-abuse scandal that threatens to drive Alabama GOP Senate candidate Roy Moore—accused of kissing or groping nine teenage girls—out of the race, I have to recognize a huge double standard in my reactions. I believed Moore’s accusers right away—especially given all the detail in their accounts, and all the corroborating witnesses. I confess: I spent at least 30 minutes looking for proof that Franken didn’t do what he’s accused of. (Then he essentially admitted he did.)

breastAgain, give Joan some credit. To the left, everything, from sexual harassment to funerals, is subservient to politics, the truth or even basic honor be damned. It’s nice when one of them just comes out and admits it.

Walsh concludes that Franken should not resign his Senate seat: "Franken has been an excellent senator, a committed feminist, a brilliant Trump foil, and the rare Democrat with a sense for the dramatic and the entertaining. We shouldn’t disown him just because Republicans want a scapegoat. We will have to, though, if these stories multiply, as they have with Trump and Moore. My fingers are crossed that they will not."

The last time Walsh was this eager to defend an alleged sexual criminal and discourage victims from coming forward was when she criticized the Wall Street Journal for running a piece on Juanita Broaddrick, who has accused Bill Clinton of rape.
