Japan Looking to Hire 6 Full-Time Ninjas to Promote Tourism

The Aichi Prefecture of Japan is advertising six full-time positions for martial arts performers with a passion for Aichi’s rich history to promote tourism.

Hired ninjas would perform acrobatics, demonstrate the use of their trademark ninja stars and pose for photographs with tourists. These ninjas would be under contract for a year and be paid a monthly salary equivalent to $1,600.

“Our ninjas also have to be good at talking to promote tourism, although ninjas are basically required to be secretive,” said Satoshi Adachi of the prefectural government’s tourism promotion unit.

They also “have to be able to do backward handsprings and some dance moves,” he added.

The prefecture is accepting applications until March 22nd from people of all nationalities -- and you may not even need to be fluent in Japanese.

While they prefer candidates who speak Japanese, individuals who show a passion for history and tourism could still be used for performances in English.

To give you an idea what these performances look like, here’s one from Iga’s Ninja Museum in Mie Prefecture, Japan.
