According to Forbes Magazine, the United Way gets more donations than any other charity in the country ($4.3 billion in 2013) and "much of the fundraising comes from payroll deductions."
The United Way however is not one charity - it is really a network 1,261 local chapters. Each of those chapters decides to which local charities they will donate your money. As revealed by 2nd Vote, an organization which tracks corporate donations, a total of 68 United Way chapters donate money to Planned Parenthood (see below) for a total of $2,888,222. A 69th chapter (marked in red) donates money to another abortion-supporting organization called the Abortion Rights Fund of Western MA (their donation is not included in the total).
Planned Parenthood has come under increased scrutiny with the release of two separate videos showing their executives selling tissue of aborted babies to scientific labs, a practice which is not only illegal but, to the pro-life community, is morally repugnant.
And, while, nationally, United Way claims neutrality on the life issue, because of the independence of the local chapters, many pro-life donors may be supporting abortion and the selling of baby tissue via payroll deductions or some other manner - without their knowledge.
