Disney Artist Lives His Dream With The Help of Technology

Animator Glen Keane, who worked on Disney films like "Little Mermaid" and "Beauty and the Beast," loves his work as an artist, though he always felt a frustration when it came to the dimensions of his craft. But, now technology has been made that will meet him halfway. Virtual reality is the key.

Keane says in this video that he felt his drawings were always too flat and he found himself wishing he could “dive in” to the worlds he was creating. Today, with a little help from some virtual reality goggles, a tech wand and some programming, he can do just that. Keane calls it “sculptural drawing.”

It’s amazing to see the Disney characters that he created in three dimensions now in life-size proportions. Keane says that “the soul of any creative art form is freedom.” Finally, he is free to enter a new world open to his creativity and it is wonderful to watch and appreciate.
