A 12-year-old has been arrested for allegedly throwing acid on an 11-year-old girl at a Detroit elementary school earlier this month.

Just in case you were wondering whether the kids were all right.

According to the victim’s family, it all started when the little girl, later identified by local media as Deaira Summers, got caught in the middle of a fight between the accused attacker and her cousin. The next day, Summers reportedly was playing on the playground at Vernor Elementary with some friends when a second altercation began. The victim’s family said she was initially able to get away from the scene, but turned around to grab her purse. It was then that her family says the suspect approached her and threw acid on her, landing her with severe second and third-degree burns on her back, legs and arms.

The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office has since charged a 12-year-old with intent to do great bodily harm and felonious assault. She's since been released on $10,000 bond with an electronic monitor and is due back in court Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Summers’ family is left caring for their badly burned child and trying to figure out how a 12-year-old was able to bring acid to a playground – and why they thought to in the first place.

“Whoever was involved with her, I would like them all to be arrested for what they did to my daughter," Dominique Summers, the victim’s mother, said, adding she believes the idea to use acid as a weapon came from an adult.

“I hope she get what she deserve, and they all get what they deserve,” she added.
