If passed, Colorado’s Senate Bill 084 would appropriate $150,000 to create a study combating “misinformation” and “disinformation” online.

Because the idea of a government-run "Ministry of Truth" just won't go away.

According to Reclaimthenet.org:

Sen. Lisa Cutter of Evergreen, spearheading the bill, highlighted the urgent need to investigate “deliberate disinformation” operations allegedly conducted by foreign actors within the US.

How does the bill define disinformation, you may ask? Well…it doesn’t.

However among other things, the language of the bill empowers the attorney general to do this:

  1. EXAMINE THE PREVALENCE OF MISINFORMATION AND DISINFORMATION ON THE INTERNET AND OTHER MEDIA CHANNELS;
  2.  IDENTIFY THE ROLES OF THE STATE AND FEDERAL GOVERNMENTS IN PREVENTING AND ADDRESSING MISINFORMATION AND DISINFORMATION;
  3.  IDENTIFY LAWS IMPLEMENTED BY OTHER STATES OR THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT THAT ARE INTENDED TO PREVENT THE USE OF THE INTERNET AND OTHER MEDIA CHANNELS FOR SHARING AND SPREADING MISINFORMATION AND DISINFORMATION

The attorney general’s office is set to deliver its pricey study results by March 1, 2025.

The bill has received bipartisan criticism for its cost and the chilling impact it could have on freedom of speech.
