US Vote Against UN Death Penalty Text Was Not Because of the LGBT Element, Says State Dep’t

The U.S. decision to vote against a U.N. Human Rights Council resolution on the death penalty last week had nothing to do with its condemnation of the use of the death penalty for homosexuality, but was taken because the text included calls for the abolition of the death penalty altogether, the State Department said Tuesday.
