PEGGY CARRANZA: New York State passed a package of laws that strengthens abortion rights. And what these laws do is precisely expand legal protections for those who seek to terminate their pregnancy voluntarily in this state. And, precisely one of these protections is that those who seek an abortion and receive, for example, criminal or civil charges, these people can sue their whistleblowers. It also gives protections to service providers like Planned Parenthood, medical centers and their staff by precisely protecting or having New York state authorities, forbidding New York authorities from collaborating or cooperating with other states, other jurisdictions, and thus protecting them from arrest or what would be extradition to another state.

SATCHA PRETTO: What other protections do these new laws provide?

CARRANZA: Patients and service providers will also be able to keep their addresses confidential. On the other hand, this to possibly protect themselves from threats, Satcha.
