New television shows are escalating the culture war in the Middle East, showcasing new and radical social norms and confronting taboos considered to be punishable by death in many hardline Islamic countries.

Turkish soap operas  depicting men and women on equal levels, drinking alcohol, engaging in premarital sex and even having abortions anger hardline Islamic clerics.
