Carlson Calls Out WashPo Writer: Don't dismiss Trump Voters As Bigots

If you missed the fireworks on Fox News’ new show “Tucker Carlson Tonight” this past Friday, you missed quite the spectacle.

Without giving too much away, host Tucker Carlson called out the Washington Post’s moderate conservative writer Jennifer Rubin for her hypocrisy in dealing with Trump voters.

In particular, Carlson challenged Rubin over her <a href="… column, in which she made a bold generalization about Trump voters:

“As the old white males who comprised Trump’s base (and Fox News’s TV audience) literally die off over the ensuing decades, there will be insufficient numbers to stand on the hill of irrational and unpopular stances like immigration restrictionism. By then, however, the GOP could be long gone, which it will if it doesn’t wise up on this and a host of other issues.”

The segment got really heated when Carlson challenged Rubin, “Let me for the third time read what you said, ‘The immigration ploy is not about jobs or terrorism. It's about angry whites." Do you have evidence for that, or are you just dismissing them as bigots because you can't imagine another explanation?”

He then went on to call out the way Rubin, and so many writers like her, stereotype Trump supporters as having had base political motives for voting for the GOP nominee:

“You don’t know [Trump supporter’s] motives. You can’t know their motives, so how about you don't speculate on them”

... “That’s evidence of contempt for voters and of ignorance and an unwillingness to understand their point of view, and it’s unhelpful. And I think you should be above that.”

While you can take what you want from this interview, it definitely calls into question a side of the media that many Trump voters claim is disconnected and unwilling to listen.

Did Carlson just call out the Washington mentality that all Trump supporters must be racist? Or is this another example of the media’s growing ideological rift with the American people? Whatever the case, this segment is fascinating, and hopefully a preview of things to come from Fox News’ newest show.
