Tom Steyer Would Declare Climate Change 'State of Emergency' on Day One

Even though the environment ranked seventh and climate change ranked 18th in a 2018 Pew Research Center survey, billionaire hedge fund candidate Tom Steyer said that he's the only candidate who believes climate change is the number one issue of our time during Wednesday night's MSNBC/Washington Post Democratic debate.

Following moderator Rachel Maddow's questioning of why climate change is so vital to his campaign, Steyer made a pretty strong statement concerning how he would deal with climate change should he be elected president.

"Rachel, I'm the only person on this stage who will say that climate is the number one priority for me," Steyer responded. "Vice President Biden won't say it. Senator Warren won't say it. It's a state of emergency, and I would declare a state of emergency on day one. I would use the emergency powers of the presidency."
