On ABC’s This Week, host George Stephanopoulos eagerly used a new Washington Post story as an excuse to pivot from GOP concerns about President Joe Biden’s foreign financial entanglements with his son, Hunter,, to how Trump and his son-in-law, Jared Kushnr, have also benefitted financially from foreign ties.
Interviewing James Comer, the Republican who is Chair of the House Oversight Committee, Stephanopoulos asserted: “You made it clear you are going to be looking at Hunter Biden, and his financial entanglements with foreign countries including China. I want to put up a front page story from The Washington Post this morning, detailing Jared Kushner’s ties to the Saudis. ‘After helping prince’s rise, Trump and Kushner benefit from Saudi funds.’” He demanded: “Will you be investigating that as well?”
Though Comer said “we need to have strict ethics laws and we need to significantly increase the disclosure laws in America,” Stephanopoulos pressed Comer to agree to pursue the Trumps: “But to be clear, you believe that this should apply to Kushner and Trump as well as the Bidens at this point?”
