State Dept. Alters Stance on Non-Recognition of Any Afghan Govt. Taking Power ‘By Force’

For months the State Department has been saying that the U.S. and many other countries will not recognize a government in Afghanistan that takes power “by force.” On Monday, it focused instead on “the actions of the Taliban,” saying the U.S. “would be able to work with” a government that respects the rights of its people, including women, and does not harbor terrorists.
