Pompeo Senate Grilling Recalls a Challenging 22-Year-Old Prayer

In June 2015, then-Rep. Mike Pompeo during an address at an evangelical church in Wichita, Kansas quoted from a prayer delivered by the church’s senior pastor almost 20 years earlier, at the opening of the state’s legislature, which included the line, “We have endorsed perversion and called it an alternative lifestyle.” Pompeo, secretary of state nominee, was grilled at his confirmation hearing Thursday on his stance on homosexuality.
