JORGE RAMOS:Another issue I wanted to discuss with you was the statements made by Goya's CEO at the White House. at the White House. This is what Bob Unanue said about President Donald Trump:
BOB UNANUE, CEO, GOYA: ...we are all truly blessed at the same time to have a leader like President Trump, who is a builder. And that’s what my grandfather did. He came to this country- to build, to grow, to prosper. And so we have an incredible builder, and we pray. We pray for our leadership, for our President, and we pray for our country- that we will continue to prosper and to grow.
RAMOS:Luis, (why is there) so much controversy regarding those statements? What is behind that?
FORMER U.S. REP. LUIS GUTIERREZ (D-IL): Well first, let us understand something. If I pray for someone or something, it's because I want to see them be well. Because I love them. Because I care for them. Goya's CEO says that he prays for Donald Trump. A president- in other words, while he is praying for Donald Trump, Donald Trump wants to expel- deport over 700,000 DREAMers from the country. He wants- and you know this, Jorge- He put children in cages. He abused those kids in cages, when they came to this country seeking refuge. Some of those children died. How can you pray for a man that hates us so much? When people see me, Jorge, they see a brown man. They see a mulatto, a mestizo. They see a man of color, as are most Hispanics in the United States. The CEO of Goya IS NOT LATINO. Therefore, I understand what his view might be. But I want to be clear. This president is an ally to Nazis. He is an ally to the extreme right. Which is proposing more and more hatred against our community. And you pray for him???
