North Korea launched a long-range rocket on Friday show off the country's might, but it splintered minutes after lift off before escaping the earth's atmosphere, officials said.
North Korea proceeded with its rocket launch, defying warnings from UN Security councils, the United States, South Korea and Japan, which see the launch as a military missile test in disguise.
