Jennings on Babbitt's Tax Hike Pledge: "He Never Recovered From His Courage"

Making his sympathies obvious in the 1988 presidential race, ABC anchor Peter Jennings mourned the departure of Arizona's Bruce Babbitt from the campaign. "When he entered the race nearly a year ago, he had the courage to say that as President he would probably have to raise taxes," Jennings intoned. "And he never recovered from his courage."
