‘This is Combat,’ Says Carter of Mission That Brought First Post-War US Fatality in Action in Iraq

Defense Secretary Ashton Carter said at the Pentagon Friday he envisages more Special Forces raids in Iraq in the future like the one on an ISIS-run prison, but said that that “doesn’t represent us assuming a combat role.”  Later in the same briefing, in reference to the raid that cost an American soldier’s life, he said, “This is combat – things are complicated.”
