CBS’s Stephen Colbert likes to portray himself as one of the country’s leading voices for the religious left, but Wednesday’s edition of The Late Show proved that most of that is just ordinary liberalism because Colbert attacked the Trump Administration for not issuing a Pride Month proclamation.
After attacking Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth for ordering the renaming of USNS Harvey Milk, Colbert added, “This is shortsighted and long-stupidded and unsurprising. Since taking office, the Trump Administration has curtailed protections around LGBTQ rights, banned trans service members from the military, axed hundreds of millions in LGBTQ health funding, and now said they have no plans to issue a Pride Month proclamation this June.”
According to the Reuters article Colbert cited about “curtailed protections,” such allegedly unpleasant actions include using the word “sex” instead of “gender” on identification documents. Meanwhile, the hostile NBC report on the “axed hundreds of millions in LGBTQ health funding” pointed out that the NIH announced it would be shifting its priorities to more all-encompassing medical needs.
