On Wednesday's New Day show, during a panel discussion of the previous night's Democratic presidential debate, CNN political analyst April Ryan gushed over candidate Marianne Williamson because she brought up the issue of the U.S. government making reparations for slavery.
At 7:22 a.m. Eastern, Ryan -- who is also White House correspondent for American Urban Radio Networks -- began her left-leaning commentary:
My MVP was Marianne Williamson. She came to play. She did not do the girlfriend shtick that we thought she was going to do. She came with issues -- she came with answers -- she came inspirational and aspirational. And she put on the table General Sherman's --
As she paused, liberal CNN contributor Angela Rye reminded her: "Special Order Number 50." Ryan continued: "Yes, Order Number 50 that Abraham Lincoln signed off on, but it never -- the promise was never kept -- 40 acres and a mule. And what is the calculation today, Angela?"
Rye responded: "I don't know, but her math was off. So for her to say, 'Do the math,' and she still did the wrong math -- you had me up until the math."
A bit later, Ryan also lavished praise on Beto O'Rourke over the same issue:
Beto came out talking about voting rights, but he also talked about the issue of reparations. Beto -- if you -- he's above the weeds, but you have to know what the weeds look like. The bottom line is, what he is supporting with Sheila Jackson Lee is a bill that calls for a commission to study reparations.
Rye jumped in: "And proposals -- they added that this year. This used to be Congressman Conyers's bill that was introduced every Congress."
