From the 9 June 2013 edition of CBS Evening News:

JOHN BLACKSTONE: There has been an empty seat for months now in the fourth-grade classroom at Jefferson Elementary in Berkeley, California. Ten-year-old Rodrigo Guzman isn't there.

Teacher Barbara Wenger was first to learn that Rodrigo and his family had been deported. Their visas had expired. They are barred from the U.S. for at least five years.

BARBARA WENGER, TEACHER, JEFFERSON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL: Sharing news with a ten-year-old that their classmate couldn't be here because of where he was born – it doesn't make sense.

BLACKSTONE: Rodrigo's absence was just as baffling for twins Kyle and Scott Kuwahara.

SCOTT KUWAHARA: It shouldn't take five years to apply for a new visa, because that's a long time to be away from your friends and family.

BLACKSTONE: What they did was take the case of their friend to the Berkeley City Council, to the streets, and to the White House.

KUWAHARA: Dear President Obama, please bring Rodrigo home.

BLACKSTONE: As America debates immigration reform, there is a class full of fourth-graders ready to testify that no matter how Rodrigo Guzman got here, he belongs here.
