CBS, NBC Skip Marine Shot in NYC, ABC Downplays Bloody Weekend

As part of the ongoing and worsening crime and murder wave gripping many cities in America, a Marine was shot and wounded in Times Square over the weekend. But despite the fact that it was one of 19 shootings that happened in their own backyard, CBS and NBC skipped any mention of the shooting or the rise in crime this summer. Meanwhile, ABC downplayed the Times Square shooting by treating it as an oddity and refused to mention the other shootings.

While none of the network morning newscasts covered the shoot in New York Monday morning, ABC World News Tonight fill-in anchor Linsey Davis sprinted past the story in a blistering 20 seconds later that evening:

New York City is increasing security following the shooting of a tourist in Times Square. Mayor Bill de Blasio says the NYPD is going to, quote, “flood the zone” with police. Authorities say a 21-year-old Marine was shot and wounded, caught in the middle of an argument between vendors. A 4-year-old girl was also shot and wounded in Times Square last month.

That’s it. That was their fleeting news brief.
