House Speaker John Boehner told the House of Representatives that the Republican counteroffer has been consistent with the ideas of Erskine Bowles and a balanced approach.  He criticized President Obama for failing to offer any spending cuts, and repeated his accusation that the White House is “slow-walking” the process.  He continued to place the onus on President Obama to respond to the GOP’s counteroffer.  Boehner repeated his earlier statements that his phone call with the White House was “pleasant,” but didn’t result in any serious progress.
