On Tuesday, the U.S. Supreme Court issued a stay that would allow for the continued enforcement of Title 42, a pandemic-era immigration policy. This was much to the chagrin of the liberal broadcasting networks, particularly ABC’s World News Tonight and CBS Evening News. Together, they bemoaned the decision and how it was “dashing the hopes of thousands” looking to get into the U.S. illegally.
During the opening tease for the newscast, ABC fill-in anchor and senior White House correspondent Mary Bruce announced the breaking news this way: “The justices leave in place Title 42, the Trump-era order restricting asylum claims amid the growing crisis at the border.”
Essentially, Bruce appeared to suggest that Title 42 was contributing to the border crisis, thus the solution to the border crisis laid in lifting the policy and just allowing illegal immigrants into the country. And when she finally got to the segment, Bruce’s chief concern was for, “what does it mean for the thousands of asylum seekers waiting on the Mexican side of the border?”
